Brief description
Portrait of Mark White Adams, age 47, of Cavendish, Vermont, seated in a light brown chair and facing almost 3/4 right. He holds a light brown leather wallet in his left hand. He is wearing a dark brown shawl collared coat over a black waistcoat or vest and a white shirt and stock. Adams a is relatively young man with dark brown hair cut short and brushed forward at the sides, and with full-length sideburns. His brown eyes have a suggestion of crow's feet at their corners, his nose is straight and well formed, and strong lines give character to his mouth. His cheeks are smooth and unlined. His demeanor is that of success and self-assurance; perhaps the wallet held in his left hand has a symbolic or iconographic significance. He is posed against a neutral olive background and at his right is a painted inscription in block letters which reads: "M. W. Adams/Born May 22,1790. AE 47". Modern frame
