Crewel-embroidered pocket

Brief description

A woman's pocket with a slit opening in the center front. The pocket is bound on all four sides with a printed chintz; the slit is bound in another chintz. There is braided cotton wicking for the ties with a patch on the back.The pocket is crewel-embroidered with a large sunflower worked in shades of blue, rose, cream, and green as a central motif at base of slit. There are long sprays on either side and across the bottom composed of star flowers, tulips, and roses worked in the same colors except that there is no blue. Flat, seed, and outline stitches have been used in the embroidery.
