Wholecloth Quilt

Name

Wholecloth Quilt

Brief description

Blue wholecloth quilt. The top is comprised of three strips of dark blue calamanco, quilted with an allover floral vine (rococo style) with leaves and cross-hatched flowers and a pineapple motif at the center bottom. Parallel diagonal lines (1/2" apart) fill out the background. Along the edges is a quilted feathered vine motif and a center medallion of a flower with leaves. It is handquilted with dark blue thread, wool batting and front to back binding. The backing is a coarsely woven tan wool fabric and an off-white modern gauze backing has been applied to protect the quilt back; it is tied with pale blue yarn and stitched to the front over the binding. Attached to the original backing of the quilt in one corner is a muslin label with handwriting in brown ink.
