Wholecloth Quilt

Brief description

An indigo wholecloth wool quilt with a glaze that is nearly worn off. It is hand pieced and quilted in a quatrefoil pattern with scroll and leaf border as well as with double lines and overlapping circles (center). It is quilted with nine stitches to the inch and in the center bottom is quilted the date: "A.D. 1789." The backing is butternut wool along the borders, a tan and blue center, and a few pieces of brown patching. There is thin brown wool batting and indigo cotton twill tape binding on all four sides (a later addition).
