Name

Wholecloth Quilt

Brief description

Wool wholecloth quilt with cut corners at foot. It has an eggplant color on the front and an orange-pink backing. The fabric has cotton warp and wool weft (per analysis by DLC, October 1990). The center of the coverlet is quilted in a geometric diamond square with centers composed of four hearts. The border is composed of two rows of a stylized leaf and vine motif executed in a flowing circle. One corner of backing has an inset piece of a darker orange-pink fabric that was dyed at a different time from the rest of the fabric. Not glazed. Stitched initials are visible, but partially illegible: "D. W. (I) (8 or B)."
